New Lat/Long Display Function in Lane Maps!
When we released the new version of Lane Maps in August 2006, we promised a number of future enhancements to the application. We are happy to announce the first new feature - the ability to display latitude and longitude cursor locations on the map, as well as the ability to place lat/long markers on the map, which can then be printed and used with a GPS unit on the ground to find specific locations.
The first thing you will notice when you open Lane Maps is that the location indicator in the upper right corner of the map now diplays lat/long as you move the cursor around on the map, as well as state plane x/y coordinates (see highlighted below - previously only x/y coordinates were displayed).

The example above shows lat/long coordinates displayed in standard degrees/minutes/seconds (DMS). You also have the option to display lat/long in decimal degrees (DD) (the metric version of DMS). To change the display to DD, open the "Lat / Long" screen on the right side of the map (see below) and select "Decimal Degrees" instead of the default "Degrees Minutes Seconds". Then move the cursor back to the map and note that the lat/long coordinates now display in DD.

There are two ways to place a lat/long "marker" on the map:
- Enter complete lat/long information into the "Lat / Long" query screen (above) using DMS formatting. Under "Report As," indicate whether you want the marker to display as DMS or as DD.
- Choose the "Add Lat/Long Marker" tool from the toolbar at the top of the Lat/Long screen (see below). Then zoom into the area of interest and click on the location where you want the lat/long marker to appear. Note that you must choose the desired format (DMS or DD) from the Lat/Long query screen before you click on the location.
The lat/long coordinates will also display in a table in the lat/long screen, from which you may copy & paste into another application if desired. (TIP: When pasting these coordinates into another application document, use the "Paste Special --> Text" option to avoid copying the table graphics.)
To delete a lat/long marker:
- Click once on the "Delete All Coordinate Markers" tool (located next to the "Add Lat/Long Marker" tool (see image below) to delete all coordinates.
- To delete only one of multiple lat/long markers, choose from the list displayed and click on the "X" to the right of the marker to be deleted (see image below)

As always, your questions & comments are welcomed & encouraged!
