The new version of Lane Maps is now live in RLID! Detailed instructions will be available in a revised RLID Tips manual no later than Aug. 31; in the meantime, here are some basic tips to get you started using the new Lane Maps:
LANE MAPS TIPS:
- When you first open Lane Maps, if the map does not fit your screen, click on the largest "monitor" icon, located in the bottom right corner of the map screen (there are 3 icons, small, medium & large - the large one fits the window to your screen). Note that it is no longer necessary to set your monitor resolution to 1280 x 1024 for optimal use of Lane Maps - this feature adjusts to your monitor automatically.
- Note that the layers menu, query and buffer interface are located on the right hand side (they were on the left in the old version). The "My Map" and "Help" selections are new and will be explained in the TIPS manual.
- The toolbar is now located vertically on the left side of the map screen and has new icons. Click on the word "Navigation" to view all navigation tools (you can determine what each tool is by holding your cursor over it). Click on "Query/Info" to display additional tools and click on "Selection" to display selection tools.
- When you enter a query, the results window will display at the bottom left of your screen, but you can move the window by clicking and dragging the title bar of the window, and you can also minimize, maximize or close the results window.
- If you close your results window and want to open it again, click on the last selection tool icon (a folder with a checkmark on it - the mouseover displays "selection set management") - then click on "view results".
- The "zoom to selection" icon, as well as icons to access the summary report, detailed property report and images for a property, are now located to the left of the results row instead of the right.
- When you zoom to a selected property using the "zoom to selection" icon, you will notice that you are zoomed in fairly close. To zoom out a bit to get a better perspective, you could use the zoom out tool, or you may choose a predetermined scale by clicking on the icon just to the right of the "Scale 1:___" box in the lower right corner just under the map. Choosing "Street" will zoom out to a level where street names and site addresses are visible. Choosing "Neighborhood" will zoom out to a level where you can view street names and a larger area, but without street addresses.
- You can also zoom in or out incrementally by clicking on the "+" or "-" on either side of the zoom bar located in the lower left corner just under the map.
- To print a map, open the tools available under "System" on the toolbar and click on the printer icon. The printer dialog box is very similar to the dialog box displayed in the previous version of Lane Maps.
Some new features to note:
- You can now query for a specific property using "mailing city" as an optional additional criteria.
- You can now buffer multiple selected taxlots at a time (detailed instructions will be included in the edited TIPS manual)
- You now have the ability to store frequently used queries (click on "Create/Edit Stored Queries" at the top of the query screen)
NOTE: We will be scheduling a Lane Maps training here at LCOG for September - watch for this announcement on the RLID home page. If needed, we will offer an additional class.
As always, we welcome your comments and feedback, and will keep you posted as we refine and enhance features of the new Lane Maps!
